Japan imposes sanctions against Ramzan Kadyrov’s cousin

The authorities of Japan have imposed sanctions on 73 organizations and 48 citizens of Russia, including Turpal-Ali Ibragimov, a cousin of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

On December 17, it became known that the European Union imposed sanctions on 49 organizations and 141 citizens of Russia. Aishat Kadyrova and Khadizhat Kadyrova, daughters of the leader of Chechnya, as well as his cousin Turpal-Ali Ibragimov, also were subject to restrictions.

Ramzan Kadyrov has been under US sanctions since 2017, and under EU sanctions – since 2014. Earlier, the United States tightened the sanctions against Ramzan Kadyrov by extending them to relatives of the leader of Chechnya, including his spouse Medni and three of his daughters, as well as Fatima Khazueva and Aminad Akhmadova, who were named on the sanctions list Ramzan Kadyrov’s wives.

Almost the entire system of government in Chechnya is associated with Ramzan Kadyrov and people close to him. According to the BBC Russian Service’s report, in 2018, out of 158 top-ranking officials in Chechnya, 30% were relatives of Ramzan Kadyrov, 23% were his fellow villagers, and 12% were his friends and their relatives.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that on November 30, the authorities of United Kingdom included Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, in the sanctions list in connection with the special military operation in Ukraine. The politician said he took the news with indifference.
