At gathering, Dagestani villagers demand to release detained doctor

At a gathering in the village of Nizhneye Kazanische, local residents have stated that surgeon Osman Osmanov is unreasonably suspected of terrorism. The villagers demand to release him.

According to the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), the participants of the gathering “are outraged that surgeon Osman Osmanov, their fellow countryman, was detained on the charge of terrorism.”

According to his relative, Osman Osmanov was detained “for the events of 10 years ago.” “He was allegedly one of the organizers of a ‘terrorist cell’ in the city of Megion in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra. But he stayed in Dagestan at that time,” said the relative of Osmanov Osman as quoted by the newspaper “Chernovik”.

The villagers who have come to the gathering state that Osman Osmanov is a decent and law-abiding person and demand to release him.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in September 2019, more than 600 residents of the village of Nizhneye Kazanische gathered near a police station and demanded to release their fellow villager. The young man was detained on the charge of possession of drugs, but the local residents claimed that the prohibited substances had been planted on him. In October of the same year, law enforcers came to the village with checks and intimidated the active participants of the gathering, the villagers say.
