In Caucasus, courts pronounce lenient sentences to mobilized men on drug charges

In the Stavropol Territory, military courts sentenced mobilized Vitaly Sayutin and Anton Degtyaryov to a year of probation, and Akhmed Murtsalov – to a fine in cases on drug trafficking. In Nalchik, a court sentenced Ilyas Sultygov to nine months of probation on the same charge. Participation in the special military operation was taken into account by the courts as a mitigating circumstance.

Vitaly Sayutin and Anton Degtyaryov were accused of acquiring a package of drugs in Stavropol. According to the decision pronounced by the Stavropol Garrison Military Court, Vitaly Sayutin has signs of “use of alcohol with harmful consequences,” and Anton Degtyaryov is addicted to opioids and needs medical treatment.

The court pointed out that Vitaly Sayutin was positively characterized in the service and had minor children. Anton Degtyaryov received a negative reference from the place of his service. As a mitigating circumstance, the court recognized the man’s repentance and participation in the special military operation, as well as the fact that Anton Degtyaryov was brought up in an incomplete family and suffers from a serious chronic illness.

The Pyatigorsk Garrison Military Court considered the case on the acquisition of drugs against mobilized Akhmed Murtsalov. A package with a narcotic substance was found by road-and-patrol police service (known as DPS) officers during an inspection. The court took into account the man’s repentance, the fact that Akhmed Murtsalov was brought to criminal responsibility for the first time, a negative reference in the service and participation in the special military operation, as well as the fact that the man had minor children, and sentenced him to a fine.

Ilyas Sultygov, who was called up for the military service, was also accused of drug trafficking. According to the court’s information, the drug was confiscated from him during an inspection at a checkpoint. The Nalchik Garrison Military Court took into account the man’s admission of guilt, positive references from the place of his service and residence, participation in the special military operation, and the facts that Ilyas Sultygov grew up in an incomplete family and had minor children, and sentenced him to nine months of probation.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in Kabardino-Balkaria, military man Ibragim Polonkoev was sentenced to a fine, and contract soldier Elbek Makaev – to a suspended sentence in cases on drug trafficking. Among the mitigating circumstances, the court also indicated the man’s participation in the special military operation in Ukraine.
