Picketers compare Makhachkala townspeople's reaction to actions in support of Gadjiev and Palestinians

The events in the Gaza Strip have distracted for some time the attention of Makhachkala townspeople from sentencing of the journalist, Abdulmumin Gadjiev. The actions in support of Palestinians evoke more responses, but the injustice against Gadjiev continues outraging people, the solo picketers, Idris Yusupov and Magomed Magomedov, have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gadjiev's colleagues treat his criminal case as political persecution and regularly hold pickets in his support. On November 20, the journalists, Idris Yusupov and Magomed Magomedov, held solo pickets in defence of Gadjiev and Palestine residents. Another solidarity rally with Palestinians was held by a local resident.

Despite the continued interest of Makhachkala residents in a solo action in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the action in support of Palestine, judging by the number of reactions, is much more popular among passers-by, said Idris Yusupov.

He believes that, despite the large number of international and local events, it is impossible to interrupt interest in the case, since people who have been following Gadjiev's case from the very beginning continue to do so, regardless of the news agenda.

Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" outlet, has called it "quite natural" that the Palestinian agenda in the society is ousting the Gadjiev's one. "There (in Palestine) we see pain, sufferings of women, children, old people, of many thousands of people; therefore, it is clear that the Gaza topic is ousting the Gadjiev's one," Mr Magomedov has noted.

He believes that Palestinians and Gadjiev are united by the notion of injustice.

Said, one of Gadjiev's friends, believes that the international events, namely, those in Ukraine and the situation in Palestine, are ousting the Gadjiev's agenda.

Islam, another Gadjiev's friend, believes that people are beginning to forget about Gadjiev's criminal case; and the active international agenda is shifting people's interest towards other events. He is confident that after the escalation of events in Palestine stops, many Dagestanis will return to discussing the real agenda, which, among others, includes the Gadjiev's case.

  • Resident of North Ossetia treats compensation for beating up by law enforcer as insufficient

Soslan Dzidakhanov disagrees with the amount of compensation for his suffered moral harm that the Ardonsky Court awarded him for being beaten up by a law enforcer. In the Russian judicial practice, it is customary to decrease the compensation amount; and the resonance from Tskaev's case has partially contributed to a decrease in the number of tortures in the republic, Vladimir Tskaev's widow and his advocate have stressed.
