Court fails to consider CER for Musaeva

A court hearing in Grozny, at which the issue of conditional early relief for Zarema Musaeva was to be considered, was disrupted as she was not brought to court.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 3, an advocate of Zarema Musaeva sent a complaint to the Prosecutor of Chechnya stating that his client had been denied medical treatment for several months, despite the obvious deterioration of her condition. On May 15, the advocate reported that Zarema Musaeva was undergoing medical treatment.

On March 28, the advocate reported that Zarema Musaeva’s vision had sharply deteriorated and she started to experience severe pains. The deterioration of Zarema Musaeva’s condition became another ground for conditional early relief, but the woman is actually being held hostage by the authorities of Chechnya, human rights defenders pointed out.

On May 27, Zarema Musaeva was not taken to the Shalinsky City Court in Grozny, where a hearing on her conditional early relief (CER) was to take place. Advocate Alexander Savin noted that he was not informed of the reason why Zarema Musaeva had not been brought to court. The defender emphasized that Zarema Musaeva’s absence was not related to her state of health, the “Team Against Torture”* reported in its Telegram channel.

The court hearing has been postponed to June 26.

*The “Team against Torture” (TaT, formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
