Lawyer points to protracting infection case of Kuban prisoner
The consideration of the lawsuit lodged by Yuri Mikhailov, who was HIV infected while being kept at the Novorossiysk SIZO (pre-trial prison) and the colonies of Kabardino-Balkaria and Kalmykia, was again postponed due to the fact that SIZO bosses failed to provide the documents requested by the court. The respondent's inaction leads to a trial delay, said Svetlana Toreeva, a lawyer, who represents Mikhailov's interests and cooperates with the "Public Verdict" Fund*.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 25, 2024, the Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk was to hold a session on the lawsuit lodged by the 37-year-old Yuri Mikhailov, who was infected with HIV while in the colony. However, the session was postponed to June 3, since the materials requested by the court had not arrived there.
Yuri Mikhailov, who is serving his term in Elista, became infected with HIV and hepatitis while staying at the Novorossiysk SIZO and colonies of Kabardino-Balkaria and Kalmykia. He has demanded compensation for inadequate custody conditions.
