Armen Aivazyan: resolution of the US Congress is the most complete document recognizing genocide of Armenians

In the opinion of Armen Aivazyan, Director of the "Ararat" Centre of Scientific-Strategic Studies, Resolution 106, approved one of these days by the US Congress, is considering many acute issues for Armenians, and this is its main distinction for the better from a number of similar documents adopted in some other countries.

According to his story, the Armenian community and the state should closely investigate the documents having relation to recognition of the fact of genocide of Armenians, which have been adopted or are in the process of adoption by foreign countries. Thus, the statement of the German Bundestag, which subjected the 1915 events in Ottoman Turkey to sharp criticism, voices the necessity to hold a meeting of Armenian and Turkish historians. "But the fact of genocide took place, why should we study documents again?" Mr Aivazyan asks.

On the other hand, according to the expert, unfortunately, some resolutions on recognition of the genocide of Armenians mention only 1915, whereas the genocide had been conceived and carried out in Ottoman Empire in the period from 1915 to 1923. Meanwhile, this circumstance has been accounted by US Parliamentarians and included into Resolution No. 106.

Besides, the Resolution of the US Congress mentions the fact that the genocide of Armenians was accomplished in their historical homeland, where they had lived for more than 2500 years. Whereas other similar documents state that the genocide was committed in Turkey or in Ottoman Empire.

The expert has positively appreciated the fact that Resolution No. 106 is directly designating not only the criminal state, but also the names of those who had conceived, organized and managed the genocide.
