Chechen authorities report about reconciliation of 2659 divorced couples
Special commissions reunited 2659 divorced couples in the republic.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported residents of the republic noted that issues of marriage and divorce should be resolved without any intermediaries. Religious figures, elders, and psychologists are unlikely to save a marriage if a serious conflict has arisen, a human rights defender emphasizes.
In the period from July 4, 2017, when commissions for the resolution of family conflicts began working in Chechnya, till October 31 of this year, 5789 divorced couples were identified in the republic, of which 2659 were reunited. Those divorced couples have 5869 children. Of them, 3955 live with their father, and 1914 live with their mother, the “Grozny Inform” news agency reports.
Let us remind you that commissions for the resolution of family conflicts in Chechnya were created under the instructions of Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the republic. Families reunify under pressure, and it is often a traumatic experience for those who decide to divorce, analysts emphasize.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that human rights defenders have repeatedly pointed out the critical situation with women’s rights in the republics of Northern Caucasus. The story of the death of Madina Umaeva from Gudermes caused a wide public outcry in Chechnya. The woman perished on June 12, 2020, in the house of her husband, who claimed that she died after falling down the stairs during an epileptic seizure.
Relatives of Madina Umaeva noted there were frequent quarrels between her and her husband. Ramzan Kadyrov intervened in the case. The leader of Chechnya stated that the Madina Umaeva’s relatives had no evidence that the husband was guilty of the woman’s death. After that, a mother of Madina Umaeva apologized for her words about the violent death of her daughter.
