Elena Patyaeva sentenced to compulsory labour
A court sentenced Elena Patyaeva, a Seda Suleimanova’s friend, to twenty hours of compulsory labour, considering her solo picket a violation.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 29, Elena Patyaeva was detained by law enforcers, who referred to a violation of anti-Covid restrictions. However, later, it became known that the activist has been charged with organizing an unauthorized public event.
On January 29, Elena Patyaeva held a solo picket on the Kadyrov Bridge in Saint Petersburg. The activist claimed that the investigation into the disappearance of Seda Suleimanova had yielded no results within ten months.
The court sentenced Elena Patyaeva to twenty hours of community service. “I’m accused on the ground that solo pickets are prohibited on the bridge,” the activist said.
Elena Patyaeva noted that her detention “was as lenient as possible.” “All law enforcers were polite and friendly, and some of them even expressed their sympathy for my friend. That’s why it was a surprise to me that I was ultimately left at a police station for two nights. But in a sense, it was a kind of a gift from the authorities: if they had simply let me go, my picket would have attracted much less attention,” the activist explained.
Let us remind you that on January 13, it became known that Elena Patyaeva complained to the General Prosecutor’s Office about the inaction of the Chechen investigative bodies investigating the disappearance of Seda Suleimanova.
