Resident of North Ossetia demands to return her seriously wounded brother from front line
Irina Mamitova, a sister of Dzatte Mamitov, who was mobilized from North Ossetia, has appealed to Alexander Bastrykin, the chair of the Investigating Committee of the Russian federation (ICRF), and Sergey Menyailo, the leader of North Ossetia-Alania, with a request to return her brother for medical treatment. Irina Mamitova believes the commanders took the seriously wounded soldier back to the assault brigade, although the medical commission found him unfit for military service.
Today, Irina Mamitova has posted her video address to Alexander Bastrykin, the chair of the Investigating Committee of the Russian federation (ICRF), on her page in Instagram*. The woman claims that she is not able to find her brother, who was sent to the front lines with serious injuries, although Sergey Menyailo, the leader of North Ossetia-Alania, promised to look into the situation after her complaint.
“Please help us find my brother, who was illegally taken from North Ossetia. My brother never ran away from war, never hid, and he always fought honestly. I want his good name to be restored,” Irina Mamitova claimed.
According to her report, Sergey Menyailo has promised Dzatte Mamitov’s relatives – his mother and aunt – to establish his whereabouts, and the republic’s leader has also assured that the mobilized man “will never return to the front lines again.” However, two days later, Sergey Menyailo reported that Dzatte Mamitov was sent to the front lines, “the first line of combat contact.”
Appeal to Sergey Menyailo
The first appeal of Irina Mamitova was distributed by the Republican Union of Veterans of Combat Operations in Ukraine. “Dzatte was seriously wounded, and despite that fact, he was taken away by officials from the military unit where he served. Now no one knows his whereabouts,” the Republican Union of Veterans of Combat Operations in Ukraine reported in their Telegram channel on April 17. The veterans asked the leader of North Ossetia-Alania, to “investigate” the situation.
According to his sister’s report, Dzatte Mamitov was mobilized on September 30, 2022. At that time, he was 25 years old. In July 2024, the man got severe injuries to his foot, arm, and right eye. “He was assigned the category of ‘temporarily unfit for military service,’ because his leg did not heal and was festering,” the woman said in the video.
Irina Mamitova has also stated that on April 10, officials from the 5th Motorized Rifle Brigade, where her brother Dzatte Mamitov served, took him from his military unit in Vladikavkaz and sent him to the combat zone. After that, Irina Mamitova herself went to Donetsk to look for her brother, but her search was unsuccessful.
“I contacted Sergey Menyailo, and I was told that they could not contact the battalion commander of his assault brigade,” Irina Mamitova stated in her video message.
Missing in action
Later, Irina Mamitova reported that unidentified people tried to withdraw money from her brother’s bank card, not knowing the amount in the banking account. The woman believes that it was not her brother who carried out the transactions, since he knew the balance of his banking account. After that, Dzatte Mamitov contacted his sister and told her that he was leaving for a combat mission and asked for money. Later, his family received a document stating that Dzatte Mamitov was missing in action on the territory of Ukraine, the “Dosh Kavkaza” publication reported on May 1.
Relatives of servicemen from the 5th separate motorized rifle brigade, located in Donetsk, have repeatedly complained about the commanders’ treatment of the soldiers, the “ASTRA”** publication reports.
