Kuban MP suspected of extorting money from soldier’s widow

A parliamentarian from the Dinsky District of the Krasnodar Territory has been detained on suspicion of extorting money from a widow of a deceased military man for the evacuation of her husband’s body from the special military operation (SMO) zone in Ukraine.

The 41-year-old resident of Krasnodar, who deceived the deceased military man’s widow, has been detained by law enforcers, the “Rosgvardiya” (National Guard of Russia) Department for the Krasnodar Territory reports today in its Telegram channel.

“Employees of the ‘Berkut-Yug’ special rapid response police unit (known as SOBR) of the ‘Rosgvardiya’ regional department helped their colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Russia in detaining the 41-year-old resident of Krasnodar, suspected of fraudulent actions against the military man’s widow,” the “Rosgvardiya” Department for the Krasnodar Territory reports.

The man is suspected of extorting 7 million roubles from the deceased military man’s widow under the pretext of helping her to evacuate the body of her deceased husband from the special military operation (SMO) zone. During negotiations with the widow, the suspect reduced the cost of his services to 2 million roubles.

The detained suspect has been identified as a parliamentarian from the Dinsky District, the “Kuban” GTRK (State-run TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) reports with reference to its source in the law enforcement bodies.

The suspect was detained at a parking lot in the centre of Krasnodar after he had received money from the deceased military man’s widow, and he rendered resistance to law enforcers during his detention, reported Alexander Runov, the head of the press service for the Chief Directorate for the Krasnodar Territory of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Russian Federation. The actions of the parliamentarian are considered to be a crime under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud), the “Utrenny Yug” (Morning South) portal reports.
