At trial on military mutiny in Georgia, defendants have their last plea
On December 29, at the process dealing with the Mukhrovani mutiny in Georgia, the defendants are given the floor for their last plea. On January 8, this stage will be over, and the judge should then pass the verdict.
Shota (Mamuka) Gorgiashvili, Commander of the Mukhrovani Armoured Battalion, said at the trial that he was indignant with the events of August 2008 in South Ossetia; he expressed it in Mukhrovani and reported in all detail to Shmagi Teliya, Commander of the Land Forces of Georgia, whom he met at the military base in Mukhrovani, soon after Gorgiashvili announced disobedience, the "Civil Georgia" writes.
According to Mr Gorgiashvili, there was no mutiny at the base, and there were no plans to overthrow the power. Army Colonel Koba Otanadze, who, under assertions of the prosecution, is one of the main organizers of the mutiny, has resolutely rejected all the accusations.
Another defendant - Koba Kobaladze - named the charges of a mutiny with the aim of overthrow the power presented to him to be "absurd".
According to the "Georgia Online", at the session to be held on January 8, the court will listen to the last plea of Levan Amiridze, former commander of rangers' battalion, and several more defendants.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that back on May 5 the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia announced solving a huge prepared mutiny in Georgia, aimed at disrupting the NATO exercises and capture of the whole country. Among the detained suspects were former high-ranking military commandersGiya Gvaladze, commander of the "Delta" special-purpose regiment in the 1990s, and General-Major Koba Kobaladze, ex-commander of the western direction of the Land Forces of Georgia and former Commander of the National Guards.
Commander of the armoured battalion Mamuka Gorgiashvili, military expert Vakhtang Maisaya and several more dozens of military officials were also detained. Twenty defendants on the case refused to admit their guilt and evidence at the trial. Thirteen persons, including Giya Gvaladze, under whose evidence General Koba Kobaladze was arrested, concluded a procedural agreement with the prosecutor's office and received 2 years of prison each.
