Magomed Daudov

Magomed "Lord" Daudov is a former Chechen militant who was awarded the title of "Hero of Russia", the chairman of the Chechen parliament under Ramzan Kadyrov.

Biography

Magomed Daudov (also known as Timur Daudov) was born in the village of Shpakovskoye in the Stavropol Territory on February 26, 1980.

During the first and second Chechen wars, he participated in armed clashes on the side of the militants.

Magomed Daudov was promoted to the rank of Police Colonel and was awarded two Orders of Courage.

Why "Lord"?

According to Magomed Daudov himself, the nickname "Lord" was given to him by Ramzan Kadyrov. When, being dressed in a black suit and a white shirt, Magomed Daudov came to the first meeting with the leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov said: "Different things have been told about you, but you are a normal person and you look like an English lord."

On October 4, 2016, Magomed Daudov was unanimously elected the speaker of the Chechen parliament.

Gay persecution charges

On May 26, the human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) released its report, stating that "Magomed Daudov played a key role in organizing the 'cleaning' of the republic from gays."

According to the HRW, "at least two former detainees claimed that Magomed Daudov had been in an illegal place of detention in Argun and had personally observed how policemen were beating alleged gay men ..."

Ruslan Kutaev's case

On February 18, 2014, in Grozny, the human rights defender held a conference on the deportation of the Chechen people. The event went against the order of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to postpone to May 10 the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow of the Peoples of Chechnya. On February 18 and 19, Ruslan Kutaev was called by Magomed Daudov, but Ruslan Kutaev ignored the warnings. On February 20, Ruslan Kutaev was detained on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs.

Ruslan Kutaev was brought to Grozny, where he was subjected to physical force in an attempt to get his confession.

On June 19, 2014, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized Ruslan Kutaev as a political prisoner. On July 7, 2014, the human rights defender was sentenced to four years of imprisonment.
