"The Council of Europe, the European Union and the OSCE want the problem of Nagorny Karabakh to be solved. These organizations want that political figures and officials will manage to settle this problem once and for all and that presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be participants in the negotiation process," OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Dutch Foreign Minister Jaap de Hoop Scheffer stated at a briefing in the airport "Zvartnots" on October 21.
Mr. Scheffer announced that, during his short visit to Armenia, he had a thorough talk with the president of the county and the foreign minister, had effective meetings with a number of public organizations. All these meetings were focused on the problem of Nagorny Karabakh. He stressed the OSCE was not a part in the negotiations and had not presented new proposals, "I hope the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen, who are involved in the process, will present new proposals soon."
