Resident of Stavropol Territory sentenced to three years of imprisonment for involvement in Syrian conflict

The Lenin District Court of Stavropol has sentenced K.M. Djamaldinov to three years of imprisonment for involvement in an illegal armed formation (IAF) in Syria. This has been reported today by the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Territory.

"The trial has revealed that in the period starting from November 14, 2013, till mid-January 2014, K.M. Djamaldinov, being motivated by religious beliefs, took part in the armed conflict in the territory of the foreign state the SyrianArabRepublic and joined an illegal armed formation. The court has announced the verdict to sentence K.M. Djamaldinov to three years of imprisonment with the restriction of freedom for six months to be served in a common-security penal colony," reports the website of the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Territory.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the verdict was announced on April 24, and it did not come into force.

According to the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot", in the period from January 1, 2014, till April 25, 2015, at least 62 criminal cases have been instituted against residents of the NCFD regions, who are still fighting in the Middle East, and against citizens, who have returned to Russia from the territory of the armed conflicts in Syria and Iraq. The criminal proceedings were instituted against residents of Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, Dagestan, and the Stavropol Territory.
