Opposition treats discussion of Draft Constitution of Georgia in Kaspi as useless

In the city of Kaspi, the discussion of constitutional amendments involved members of the ruling party, officials, and public employees. This was reported by the opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 22, by majority of votes, the State Constitutional Commission adopted the Draft Constitution of Georgia, according to which the president of the country would be elected by the election board. The Constitutional Commission holds discussions on the Constitution in various cities of Georgia.

On May 24, the discussion of the draft constitutional amendments took place in the city of Kaspi in the Shida Kartli Region, reports Nona Merebashvili, a correspondent of the local newspaper "Akhali Gantiadi".

According to her, during the discussion, "the majority of the people who came to it agreed with the proposed amendments."

In turn, Mikheil Bekauri, an MP from the opposition "United National Movement" Party, has said that in the city of Kaspi, the majority of the participants in the discussion of the constitutional amendments were members of the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party.

"Meanwhile, 90% of the participants were employees of the local administration and budget organizations," Mikheil Bekauri told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"This was not a discussion, but another performance organized by the 'Georgian Dream' Party. Organizers of the meeting like always cursed the former ruling of the UNM and showed the adherence of the majority party. That was all," said Mikheil Bekauri.
