Speaker of Chechen Parliament reprimands head of Dagestani Kizlyar District for sign demolition
Residents of the Kizlyar District have dismantled road signs on the border with Chechnya due to negligence of local authorities, Magomed Daudov, Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, has stated and assured residents of the district that they could only dismantle the remaining road signs only "over his dead body." A large number of camouflaged vehicles were sent to the border of the two republics.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a video was posted on the Internet on June 10, in which young people dismantled one of the road signs with the inscription "Shelkovskoy District" in the outskirt of Kizlyar. The voluntarily dismantled signs will be installed again, Mr Daudov has promised.
"This mess between the Chechen Republic and Dagestan is precisely because of the administration of the city of Kizlyar," Speaker Daudov reproached the local authorities for their bad work with the population.
On March 16, 2019, Chechnya unilaterally registered a controversial piece of land on the border with the Kizlyar District of Dagestan as its territory. An official from Ramzan Kadyrov's office explained that the Chechen party had not received any reaction from Dagestan. The Dagestani commission on border demarcation did not visit the village, local residents told on April 12.
