“Novaya Gazeta” demands to start criminal proceedings against Ramzan Kadyrov

The newspaper “Novaya Gazeta” called on Alexander Bastrykin, the chief of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), to launch an investigation into a criminal case against Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov under the article on incitement to hatred. A complaint to the ICRF has been filed in connection with the fact that Ramzan Kadyrov ranked Igor Kalyapin, a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, and Elena Milashina, a journalist of the “Novaya Gazeta”, as accomplices of terrorists.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 24, when commenting on the situation with the kidnapping of a mother of Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer of the “Committee Against Torture”*, Ramzan Kadyrov ranked Igor Kalyapin, the head of the “Committee Against Torture”*, a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, and journalist Elena Milashina, a correspondent of the “Novaya Gazeta”, as terrorist accomplices. Igor Kalyapin said that he would not complain about the Ramzan Kadyrov’s allegation, because all such allegations voiced by the leader of Chechnya went unpunished.

The newspaper “Novaya Gazeta” sent a complaint with a request to institute a criminal case against Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who called Igor Kalyapin and Elena Milashina “terrorists.” The complaint is addressed to the ICRF’s chief Alexander Bastrykin, the newspaper reports today.

The “Novaya Gazeta” requests the ICRF to institute a criminal case against Ramzan Kadyrov under the article on inciting hatred or enmity, the newspaper reports.

* The “Committee Against Torture” (CaT) was included by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Russia in the register of NCOs-foreign agents in 2015. In this regard, leaders liquidated the organization and created a new legal entity: the “Committee for the Prevention of Torture”, which was also included in the list of foreign agents, and the organization was closed. At present, the “Committee Against Torture” operates as an unregistered public association.
