Demonstrators in Baku support Ukraine

The participants of the action held in Baku have demanded to stop hostilities in Ukraine. The police tried to limit the number of participants.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 24, Araz Azimov, the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, stated, at the sitting of the Permanent Council of the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) that the situation in Ukraine should be resolved peacefully and diplomatically in accordance with the norms and principles of the international law. On February 27, it became known that four Azerbaijani citizens were killed by shelling in Ukraine.

On February 27, a demonstration was held in front of the Ukrainian Embassy to Azerbaijan, located in Yusif Chemenzemenli Street in Baku. Its participants expressed support for Ukraine, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The action was organized through social networks by a number of oppositional parties, public organizations and media professionals. The protesters came to the embassy building and held posters with words of support for Ukraine. They chanted "No to war!"

Policemen did not disperse the action, but created obstacles for the protesters. Some of them tried to get to the embassy building, but the police from both sides blocked the road to limit the number of participants. The action, however, ended without arrests. According to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, from 500 to 1000 people took part in it.
