Parents of Dagestani Djabrailov, who died after being detained, call on to punish those responsible for his death

In their appeal to President Putin, parents of deceased Makhachkala resident Akhmed Djabrailov, who was detained by the police, have claimed that those involved in his death are trying to avoid responsibility and that the deceased man’s relatives are being subjected to pressure.

On July 27, Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of Dagestan, stated that law enforcers were “intentionally or unintentionally” involved in the death of Akhmed Djabrailov.

Akhmed Djabrailov, who was detained for disturbing public order, died in a police station on July 9. His mother said that the police did not use physical force against her son and that he himself behaved inappropriately.

“We want to appeal to you for justice, since those interested in concealing the crime are trying to do everything to ensure that the guilty persons are not brought to justice. Top-ranking officials from the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) are not interested in making the case public, and ... they tried to present the murder as an accident,” Ismail Djabrailov and Khadizhat Gasanova, the parents of Akhmed Djabrailov, emphasized in their appeal to the Russian President as quoted by the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause) publication.

In addition, the relatives of the deceased man “found it strange that the relatives were not allowed to wash the body of the deceased, as required by religious rites.”

No criminal case has been instituted yet, the Akhmed Djabrailov’s parents emphasized.

Let us remind you that in January 2023, after being detained, Makhachkala resident Kurban Dalgatov died in the same police station. Thirteen policemen have been charged with involvement in his death.
