Human rights defenders recognize blogger Askhabali Alibekov as political prisoner
The charge of using violence against a policeman does not correspond to the circumstances of the blogger Askhabali Alibekov’s case. The authorities are forcing the blogger to stop his opposition activities by persecuting him, the “Support for political prisoners. Memorial” human rights project states.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that according to the investigators’ version, during his detention, Dagestani native Askhabali Alibekov, an author of the “Dikiy Desantnik” (Wild Paratrooper) channel on YouTube, struck a policeman in the leg. On March 4, a court in Kazan arrested Askhabali Alibekov for two months. The blogger claimed that he hit the law enforcers by accident, as his arms were being twisted.
Askhabali Alibekov could hit one of the policemen who were dragging him during the detention, but by accident, and not intentionally, human rights defenders note.
They point out that Askhabali Alibekov has been repeatedly persecuted for opposition video messages on his blog. In total, the blogger has already spent more than five years in prison, and each new arrest of Askhabali Alibekov occurred shortly after his release.
In 2022, when the blogger was persecuted for his pacifist position, human rights defenders also recognized him as a political prisoner.
