Advocate Timur Idalov detained in Grozny
Chechen advocate Timur Idalov, accused in a case on threats to a public prosecutor, was detained in Grozny and taken to Moscow.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that for violating a pre-trial restriction measure in the form of a ban on certain actions, a Moscow court ruled to place Chechen advocate Timur Idalov, accused of threatening a public prosecutor, in custody. Law enforcers were unable to deliver Timur Idalov to a SIZO (pre-trial prison), and he was put on the wanted list.
Timur Idalov was detained on April 12, 2023 and then arrested on suspicion of threatening a public prosecutor with violence during a court hearing (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). However, on July 5, 2023, it became known that the charge was reclassified as a threat to kill or cause harm to the public prosecutor. According to the investigators’ version, on October 3, 2022, Timur Idalov voiced “threats of violence” against the public prosecutor in the Nikulinsky District Court in Moscow. Advocate Murad Musaev called the charge “far-fetched,” stating that Timur Idalov had an altercation with the public prosecutor and that six months later Timur Idalov’s remark was classified as a threat. “Are you Commissioner Cattani [a character from an Italian mafia series]? But he was shot dead,” Murad Musaev quoted Timur Idalov as saying to the public prosecutor.
Let us remind you that Timur Idalov represents the interests of the Belkharoev family in the case on the assassination of Ibragim Eldjarkiev, the head of the Ingush Centre to Combat Extremism (CCE, also known as Centre “E”). In 2021, Mustafa Belkharoev, the head of the Accounts Chamber of Ingushetia, complained that after the detention of his son Alikhan in the case on the assassination of the head of the Ingush Centre “E”, the detainee was subjected to brutal torture. Alikhan Belkharoev himself also complained about torture. After that, law enforcers conducted two searches at the Mustafa Belkharoev’s house within two months. Advocate Timur Idalov called those searches revenge on the Belkharoev father and son.
