"Chernovik" newspaper office searched in Dagestan

Today, representatives of law-enforcement agencies blocked the office of the Dagestan weekly "Chernovik" (Blueprint) and started a careful search thereof.

Journalists of the weekly have informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that law enforcers, presumably FSB (Federal Security Bureau) agents, arrived to the weekly's office. They were not able to identify them more precisely, since none has presented himself.

"Journalists were not admitted to their workplaces, and all the rooms are searched," The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the "Chernovik" office. In the opinion of the journalists, the search is held in the context of the criminal case initiated against Nadira Isaeva, editor-in-chief of the weekly.

"The decision to open a case against me will be surely appealed against," Ms Isaeva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "We don't exclude our filing an application demanding to initiate a criminal case against the Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Dagestan for hindrance to journalists' professional activities."

According to Nadira Isaeva, the outcomes of the linguistic examination, now performed by the Prosecutor's Office, have no particular conclusions.
