35 people attend presentation of projects of "Open Russia" in Rostov-on-Don

In Rostov, the "Hermitage" Hotel hosted the presentation of the project "Open Russia" and free screening of the film "Nemtsov". The events were attended by 35 people, mostly by Rostov oppositionists, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Boris Nemtsov was killed on February 27, 2015, in Moscow. He was one of most prominent opposition politicians in Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today activists of the "National Liberation Movement" (known as NOD) have held a series of solo pickets in front of the hotel in Rostov-on-Don, where the film "Nemtsov" was screened free of charge.

Maria Baronova, a coordinator of the project "Open Russia", who delivered her speech on March 4, has emphasized the particular importance for creation of the project "Legal Protection" in the regions. The project is aimed at "protection and support of the people, persecuted by the state for their views, political and social activities, and provision of legal and informational support in cases with obvious political nature of persecution."

Maria Baronova has also noted that lawyers of the project "Legal Protection" mainly take criminal cases under "extremism" articles, "with obvious political nature for persecution of a person." According to the activist, the human rights project "Open Russia" helps political prisoners by "notifying their family members, hiring advocates for them for trials, and attempting to cover the events in the media, and also helping families of political prisoners by giving them money." In particular, the project "Legal Protection" was involved in the cases against Varvara Karaulova and is involved in the cases against blogger Anton Nosik and Astrakhan resident Maxim Panfilov.
