Negotiations on resumption of metro work in Tbilisi fail
This night, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has had two rounds of talks with metro drivers on strike. However, the negotiations have failed. The machinists stay unhappy with the proposal to raise their salaries in 2019 and announced the continuation of their strike.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 4, the machinists of the Tbilisi metro declared a strike, and all the metro stations in Tbilisi were closed.
Late in the evening on June 4, the metro drivers were invited to the Tbilisi City Mayoralty for negotiations. The meeting ended after midnight, but no arrangements were agreed.
According to members of the metro drivers' trade union, the Tbilisi Mayor promised them that their salaries would be increased, not now, but only in 2019. That displeased the strikers.
After the meeting, Vice-Mayor Irakli Khmaladze stated that Mayor Kakha Kaladze is going to come to the Gldani depot, where the strikers gathered to continue the negotiations there, the "News-Georgia" reports.
