Abkhazia temporarily opens border with Georgia

Since February 5, the border between Abkhazia and Georgia is temporarily open, but the quarantine regime of its crossing is still valid. If the situation with the swine flu in Georgia deteriorates, the border will be closed again, reports Temur Nadaraya, the head for the administration of the Gali District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 10, Abkhazia imposed a two-month restriction on crossing the border with Georgia because of the outbreak of swine flu. The ban was imposed on the entry of foreign citizens from the territory of Georgia, as well as the departure of Abkhazian citizens to the territory of Georgia. On January 24, residents held a rally in front of the administration building of the Gali District to express their indignation with the border closure at the "Engur" checkpoint.

The quarantine regime has been valid, and medical officers are still on duty at the border checkpoint at the Enguri Bridge, reported Temur Nadaraya, the acting head for the administration of the Gali District as quoted by the "Nuzhnaya Gazeta".

"They left the doctors on duty. Everyone who enters Abkhazia will be examined, and the doctors will measure body temperature. The border is opened for 4-5 days, and then we will see," reports Temur Nadaraya as quoted by the "Echo of the Caucasus".

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention.
