Relatives of Chechen who died in penal colony demand 15 mln roubles of compensation

In Grozny, a court accepted for consideration a claim filed by parents of Sultan Israilov. They demanded from the state to pay the compensation for non-pecuniary damage for the torture and death of their son in a penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 21, 2015, Sultan Israilov, a native of Chechnya, was placed to a punishment cell in a penal colony in Chelyabinsk, and after that he was found dead. In February 2016, the charges of abuse of power with using of violence were brought against prison officers.

The court concluded that the colony officers forced the prisoner to stay "in a life-threatening position in which he was not able to move," and the prisoner died because of a long stay in such a position.

The parents of Sultan Israilov filed the claim to the Grozny court against the Russian Ministry of Finance to oblige it to pay 15 million roubles of the compensation for non-pecuniary damage for the torture of their son in the penal colony, the press service of the human rights organization "Zona Prava" reported.

Sultan Israilov's parents have "all chances" to receive compensation, lawyer Sultan believes.
