In Krasnodar, Court upholds fine to Ruslan Gvashev (+video)

The Krasnodar Territorial Court has dismissed the complaint filed by Ruslan Gvashev, who was fined for praying at the Tulip Tree. Advocates will appeal against the Court's decision.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the Court has considered the complaint filed about the fine imposed on Ruslan Gvashev, the former head of the Circassian-Shapsug Council of Elders. Starting from October 5, he is stopping his hunger strike at a sanatorium in Kabardino-Balkaria. Ruslan Gvashev himself did not come to the trial because of poor health.

The defence of Ruslan Gvashev submitted to the Court a conclusion from the Institute for Humanitarian Research from Kabardino-Balkaria. According to the conclusion, the Tulip Tree is a place of worship, and the Day of memory and mourning for Adygs who suffered during the Caucasian War is a ritual action which, under the laws of Russia, does not need to be sanctioned.

The advocates have announced their intention to challenge the decision of the Krasnodar Regional Court.
