FIDH to hold its 37th Congress in Armenia

The International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) will hold its 37th Congress in Armenia. With the aim to start its preparation, a delegation of this human rights organization, headed by president Souyer Belassen, visited this country in June.

In April 2010, over 400 human rights activists will come to Armenia to take part in the Congress. According to Ms Belassen, the choice of this country was caused by several factors: "Firstly, by the growing role of this region in geopolitical development of the situation. On the other hand, the decision to hold the congress in Armenia is an initiative aimed to express solidarity with the Armenian civil society and human rights defenders here," the Public Radio of Armenia reports.

According to Antoine Bernard, executive director of the FIDH, the topic of the congress will be "Justice", since the efficiency of justice is a precondition for democracy development, respect of law and economic stability, reports the "PanАrmenian" Agency.
