Russian human rights activists to support head of HRC "Memorial" in litigation against President of Chechnya

Russian human rights activists promise to support Oleg Orlov, leader of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", in litigation against President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov. This was stated by Liudmila Alekseeva, Chair of the Moscow Helsinki Group. Mr Kadyrov also has a supporter - Ombudsman in Chechnya Nurdi Nukhazhiev.

We remind you that it became known today that Andrei Krasnenkov, advocate of Chechen President prepares a suit to one of Moscow courts on defence of the honour, dignity and business reputation of the President of the Chechen Republic in the context of Oleg Orlov's statements about Kadyrov's personal guilt of the murder of human rights activist Natalia Estemirova. The above advocate plans to file another application to Moscow GUVD (City Interior Department) "on the fact of slandering the President of the Chechen Republic."

Meanwhile, Nurdi Nukhazhiev, Ombudsman in the Chechen Republic, is ready to support Mr Kadyrov. The Ombudsman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he planned to file an application to the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya with the request to give a legal estimate of Oleg Orlov's accusations of the President of Chechnya.

According to Mr Nukhazhiev, Ramzan Kadyrov does not know yet about his application to the Prosecutor's Office yet, and will learn about it only from his next daily media review, done by him on a regular basis. When asked directly, whether he had a talk with Ramzan Kadyrov on the application to the Prosecutor's Office, Nurdi Nukhazhiev evaded answering by saying that he does not coordinate his actions with the President of Chechnya.
