Mailyan: protest of Armenian society can force MPs not to ratify Armenian-Turkish Protocols
Only a powerful protest wave in the society can force the parliament of Armenia refuse to ratify the Armenian-Turkish Protocols, which were signed in Zurich on October 10, as Masis Mailyan, chairman of the Public Board for foreign policy and security of Nagorno-Karabakh, believes.
"Moreover, that the major parliamentary factions in Armenia have already voiced their support of the process of the Armenian-Turkish rapprochement. However, the Turkish party moves new conditions and states that the process of ratification will be linked with Armenians' territorial concessions in Karabakh," Mr Mailyan has noted in his comments on the prospects of ratification of the Protocols by the parliaments of Armenia and Turkey.
The expert also asserts that "the Turks have received a document that reflects the majority of their conditions; thus, they have no reasons not to ratify the pro-Turkish document in their own parliament."
When asked whether the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation will tell on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlements, the political scientist has noticed that if the process of Armenian -Turkish normalization had really gone without preconditions, it would have positively affected the settlement between the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and Azerbaijan.
