Georgia authorities tabulate hurricane losses
Today, the government of Georgia calculates the damage caused to the country by the hurricane wind that fell on Eastern Georgia on February 22. The exact estimates of the damage will be known by the evening.
Let us remind you that two persons perished and several more were wounded as a result of the hurricane that rushed on the capital of Georgia.
Prime Minister Nikolai Gilauri told journalists before the sitting that the calamity brought serious damage both to Tbilisi and the whole Eastern Georgia, the "Georgia Times" reports.
In Tbilisi, 150 houses lost their roofs, over 50,000 users remained without electricity. In the Eastern Georgia, the number of such unhappy users was over 130,000. Now, the power supply to Tbilisi is completely restored; and in regions, according to the Premier, 80,000 citizens are still without electricity. Mr Gilauri also promised that the government would fund the repair of damaged buildings.
The "Georgia Online" adds that the authorities of the capital also promise to pay for the treatment of hurricane victims.
Let us note here that on February 12 hurricane also rushed on the cities of Poti and Kutaisi. As a result, over 50,000 families remained de-energized.
A strongest hurricane attacked Georgia also in early January. Then, about 100,000 citizens remained without electricity.
