Debate series under Project "Peace to the Caucasus" held in North Ossetia

On March 19-22, the working group of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for development of public dialogue and civil society institutes in the Caucasus is holding in North Ossetia a series of public debates within the Project "Peace to the Caucasus".

The Project "Peace to the Caucasus" started in October 2009. It assumes meetings, discussions and roundtables in the republics of Northern Caucasus. Debate platforms are established, where everyone could act and tell about his/her vision of the situation in the Caucasus. Prior to arrival to North Ossetia, public debates under the Project took place in Dagestan (October 2009), Ingushetia (December 2009) and Karachai-Circassia (February 2010).

The North-Ossetian stage of the Project was launched in Beslan. Two questions were addressed to the participants of the event: "What do you see as the problems of your village, city and region?" and "What image of the future do you find achievable?"

Among the main problems, emphasized by residents of Beslan and the region as a whole in their open presentations, were employment of the population, which has to do with insufficient operation of enterprises, price growth on municipal services, quality of public health services, modernization of education and measure of effective social support of the people who suffered from the terror act in Beslan.
