In Dagestan, Afghan War veterans again demand from the authorities to solve their housing problems
On December 22, more than 70 veterans of the war in Afghanistan went out to hold another picket in the "Afghans' Park" in Makhachkala. In the course of the action, they announced an appeal to the authorities, in which the veterans presented the essence of their problems and complaints addressed to state officials.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the first protest action was held by the veterans of Afghanistan on December 19. The main demand of the picketers is to address their housing problems. Out of 3200 veterans of the Afghan War, about 2000 need new housing or improvement of what they have.
Let us remind you that the 2010 republic's investment program assumed co-financing of 30 million roubles into construction of a 60-apartment block for veterans of the Afghan War. In 2010-2012, about 75 million roubles will be allocated additionally.
The veterans demand a personal meeting with President Magomedsalam Magomedov to discuss the mechanism of obtaining the money. They do not want to wait for the completion of the construction, but hope to get the money by themselves to improve their housing conditions.
"Will we really get any housing? The promised 30 million roubles will solve the housing problem for about 20 persons only, while there are about 2000 veterans in need of housing in the Republic of Dagestan. We should not forget the families of the untimely deceased Afghanistan veterans, who failed to wait for their housing. There are several hundreds of such families in Dagestan," the appeal says.
The document also notes that the agreements reached with the former head of the Government of Dagestan Shamil Zainalov after the hunger strike on October 6-16, 2008, have not yet been implemented.
