Urus-Martan
Town in Chechnya, rayon (sector) centre, 31 km south-west of Grozny. Located in the south of the Chechen (Grozny) Foothill Plain, on the Martan River (right inflow of the Sunzha River, the basin of the Terek), 18 km south-west of the railway station of Yermolovsky in the Mineralnye Vody - Gudermes line. A motor road junction. Population (1992 est.) 38 thousand.
The town was formed in 1990 on the basis of a large Chechen village. An agricultural centre. At the beginning of the 1990s, Urus-Martan had enterprises of food-processing industry.
