European schoolchildren's boxing championship in Chechnya attracts 155 athletes from 16 countries
The championship in boxing among schoolchildren was opened on July 10 in the Chechen capital. The tournament will be held from July 10 to July 16.
This sort of European-level championship is held here for the first time. It is held at heightened security measures.
From early morning on July 10, the highways running to the recently opened largest in Northern Caucasus sporting complex named after Akhmad Kadyrov in the Lenin District of Grozny were blocked by reinforced units of policemen and militaries.
"The championship involves young boxers aged 13-14 years. In total, 155 young athletes will compete in 18 weight categories. The tournament is also attended by the Russian national team in boxing. A rich cultural programme will be offered to the participants," said the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of Chechnya.
The decision to hold the European Schoolchildren's Boxing Championship in Grozny was made at the sitting of the Executive Committee of the European Boxing Confederation in February this year.
