South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity hands over presidential powers to Vadim Brovtsev

Today, at the public meeting in Tskhinvali, Eduard Kokoity announced his resignation as President of South Ossetia and handed over presidential powers to Vadim Brovtsev, Prime Minister, who was appointed the acting head of the republic.

"I leave to fight for the further consolidation of the society and the strengthening of the statehood of South Ossetia," Eduard Kokoity said.

According to Eduard Kokoity, on December 11 the Prime Minister Vadim Brovtsev will start his activities as the Interim President of the republic, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Ex-leader of the republic believes that the current authorities of South Ossetia managed to defeat the "orange revolution" and to prevent power of criminals, disguised by political ambitions, the "Interfax" reports.

In accordance with the Ossetian traditions, republic's public figures presented Eduard Kokoity three pies and honourable cup with Ossetian beer. Merab Zasseev, Advisor to the President, has emphasized that the republic will always remember the achievements of the ex-President, who had brought the republic's independence.
