Primorsko-Akhtarsk
Rayon (sector) centre in Krasnodar kray (region), 151 km north-west of Krasnodar. Located on the coast of the Sea of Azov (a port). The terminal railway station (Akhtary) in the branch from the station of Timashevskaya in the Rostov-on-Don - Krasnodar line. Airport. Population (1992 est.) 31.1 thousand, (1979 est.) 28 thousand.
In 1949, the stanitsa (Cossack village) of Primorsko-Akhtarskaya was transformed into the city. Present Primorsko-Akhtarsk is an agricultural centre with developed flavouring industry (a cannery, a dairy, a fish-works; a perfumery, etc.). There is a barrel factory and a factory of thermo-insulating slab, production of building materials.
