Explosion at Chermen checkpoint is seventh terror act, committed by suicide bombers in North Ossetia
Last night, at the Chermen checkpoint, an explosion occurred, in which one policeman was killed and four other policemen were injured. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the explosive device was activated by a suicide bomber.
The today's suicide bombing at the Chermen checkpoint in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia was preceded by at least ten terror acts, committed in the republic since 1999, including six terror acts, committed by suicide bombers.
On September 9, 2010, a suicide bomber in a Volga car activated a powerful improvised explosive devise at the entrance to the Central Market in Vladikavkaz (the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania). Apart from the suicide bomber, the terror act killed 19 persons. Of these, 14 persons died at the place, and 5 more persons died later. The total number of victims exceeded 160 persons.
On August 17, 2010, in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, at the Chermen militia checkpoint, a suicide bomber activated and explosive device after the law enforcement officers asked him to present his documents. As a result of the explosion, a militiaman was killed, and three inspectors of the road-and-patrol service were severely wounded.
On November 6, 2008, in Vladikavkaz, near the Central Market, at the intersection of Vatutin and Kuibyshev Streets, a fixed-route taxi was blown up. An explosive device was activated by a female suicide bomber. As a result of the terror act, 12 persons were killed and more than 30 persons got injuries of varying severity.
In the morning of September 1, 2004, a group of terrorists that, according to the official information, consisted of 32 persons and included two female suicide bombers took hostages in the school No. 1 of the city of Beslan. During two and a half days, the terrorists kept at the school building more than 1100 hostages, mostly children, their parents and school staff members. On September 3, the operation to rescue the hostages was conducted. As a result of the hostage-taking and spontaneous rescue operation, 334 persons and all terrorists, except one, were killed.
On June 5, 2003, in the city of Mozdok, a female suicide bomber attacked a bus with helicopter pilots and technical staff of the Russian air base. There were about 40 persons in the bus. As a result of the terror act, 18 persons were killed and 15 persons were wounded.
On August 1, 2003, in Mozdok, a suicide bomber in a KamAZ truck, loaded with 10 tonnes of explosive substances, broke a barrier, entered the territory of the Mozdok military hospital and activated an explosive device near the main hospital building. As a result of the terror act, 52 persons were killed and 78 persons were wounded. The hospital was destroyed.
On April 28, 2002, at the market in Vladikavkaz, an explosive device with capacity of about 500 grams of trotyl was activated. As a result of the terror act, 8 persons were killed and more than 44 persons were wounded.
On November 10, 2001, at the market "Falloi" in Vladikavkaz, an explosive device with capacity, equivalent of 1 kg of trotyl, was activated. As a result of the terror act, 5 persons were killed and 44 persons were wounded.
On July 9, 2000, at the Central Market in Vladikavkaz, an explosive device, planted under a car parked in the square near the market, was activated. As a result of the terror act, 6 persons were killed and 18 persons were wounded.
On March 19, 1999, also at the Central Market in Vladikavkaz, a massive explosion occurred. As a result of the terror act, 52 persons were killed and about 200 persons were wounded.
