The collection rate of utility payments in Grozny exceeds 120 percent

In January, the utility employees of the Chechen capital managed to collect 121 percent of all types of payments for housing and municipal services. Residents of Grozny report about raids aimed to disconnect the debtors from gas, electricity and water supplies.

"The raids aimed to identify the so-called 'scates' and collection of debts will last approximately till the end of March," a source from the Mayoralty of Grozny told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"In recent weeks we were visited twice a day with a demand to pay the electricity debts; in the morning and evening the electricity was switched off," said Islam, a resident of Grozny. "I have three small children and two schoolboys, who need at least to do their lessons. On Monday, I received my pension, and I could partially pay the debt. But I don't know now how to nourish my family."

"They tell me that I have a debt on gas of over 50,000 roubles. All my attempts of clearing up the situation have failed, as I'm told everywhere that these are the figures "shown by the computer," said Zarema, a resident of the Kurchaloi District of Chechnya.
