Lermontov
Town in Stavropol kray (region), kray subordination, 190 km south-west of Stavropol. Located in Ciscaucasia, at the southern end of the Stavropol Upland, in the centre of a large agglomeration of health resort cities of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, on the foothill plain and the western slope of Mount Beshtau, 5 km from the railway station of Skachki in the branch of Mineralny Vody - Kislovodsk. Population (1992 est.) 22 thousand, (1956 est.) 10.8 thousand, (1976 est.) 17.9 thousand.
Founded in 1953 as an industrial community of Lermontovsky, occupying the area of 2.9 thousand hectares, allocated for industrial projects of atomic engineering (production of uranium ore, the present PО Almaz), housing accommodation, etc. The town of Lermontov since 1956. In 1967, the town lost its specialisation and new industrial enterprises of radio electronic industry, instrument-making, means of automation and control systems, etc. appeared. In 1989, the town took over the village of Ostrogorki. By the beginning of the 1990s, the town of Lermontov had the Microohm factory, the Orgtekhnika plant, a weaving mill, etc. Branch of the OrgstroyNII-proekt design institute.
In 1981, the town installed a monument to M.Y. Lermontov (sculptor О.К. Komov).
