Krasny Sulin
Town in Rostov oblast (province), oblast subordination, 100 km north-east of Rostov-on-Don. Located on eastern spurs of the Donets Ridge, on the Kundryuchya River (the Don basin). Railway station (Sulin) in the Millerovo - Rostov-on-Don line. 5 km from the Moscow - Rostov-on-Don highway. Population (1992 est.) 43.2 thousand.
Founded as a farm in 1797 by the Cossack colonel Andrey Sulin. Emerged with the settlement of the iron foundry, built on the basis of local deposits of iron ore, in the 1870s. In 1926, the settlement of Sulin received the town status and the new name of Krasny Sulin. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, it was occupied by Nazi troops from July 21, 1942 to February 14, 1943. Present Krasny Sulin has a metal works, enterprises of food-processing industry, production of building materials, etc. Nesvetay state single-area power station.
