Georgia: 78 refugee families receive housing within three days
On February 4 and 6, 78 families of refugees from South Ossetia received housing. The Ministry of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of Georgia has accommodated them in the buildings of former kindergartens and schools in Khashuri and Gori.
"These families came from the Tskhinvali District (the way they call South Ossetia in Georgia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). They were forced to leave their homes during the war in August 2008," Eka Gulua, the press speaker of the above Ministry, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to her story, earlier these families lived in very poor conditions.
In 2013, the settlement of refugees will go under a new schedule. Until the end of the year, throughout Georgia, it is planned to settle 40,000 families in newly built houses. In total, the waiting list includes 65,000 families of internally displaced persons from Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Ms Gulua has added that houses for refugees are prepared throughout Georgia – in Batumi, Khashuri, Gori, Imereti and Kakheti.
Refugees themselves hope that they will be given housing, where they already live. Some of them are ready to settle in rural areas, but most of the refugees living in Tbilisi would not like to move the village.
