Prior to his death Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev wrote about kidnappings, Tsarnaev's case and incident at wedding in Kizlyar

The incident that occurred at a Muslim wedding party in Kizlyar was one of the last topics covered by Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who was killed today in Dagestan. During the past two months, he also reported about kidnappings and detentions of local residents by law enforcers, whose number included supporters of "traditional" Islam, on interrogation by US FBI agents of a second cousin of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, suspected of committing the terrorist act in Boston, and on establishment of the Union of Builders of Dagestan.

Let us remind you that Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, was shot dead this morning in the village of Semender in Dagestan. Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev died in the place from the wound, the website of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reports. Investigators consider the version of his murder because of his professional activities as a top priority version.

Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev was one of the few journalists in Dagestan, who wrote about the "downsides" of counter-terror, about persecution of entire religious communities under the above pretext, about mass violations of human rights, and about crimes committed by law enforcers, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" presents below the last materials prepared by Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev that awaited the publication.

Last topics covered by Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev

Kizlyar wedding party

One of the last materials prepared by Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, on which he had managed to transfer part of information to the "Caucasian Knot", was about the case against local residents who were detained at the Islamic wedding party in Kizlyar. This case has not yet been brought to the court. The detainees are kept at the Khasavyurt SIZO (pre-trial prison), and last week, they were brought to the village of Tarumovka of the Tarumovka District. This was reported by Rashid Jafarov, the advocate of Magomed Kartashov.

Let us remind you that on April 27, in Kizlyar, law enforcers stopped a wedding party procession with Islamic flags. Eyewitnesses reported on beating of participants of the ceremony, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) issued a statement on the detention of members of an extremist organization. Criminal cases were instituted against four participants of the incident Magomed Kartashov, Mikat Mikatov, Murad Abdulmuminov, and Shapi Suleimanov on the fact of using violence against representatives of the authorities. This was reported by advocate Patimat Abdullaeva.

On April 30, she visited her clients at the Kizlyar IVS (temporary detention facility), and after that she reported that the bodies of the arrested persons had signs of bodily harm.

In Dagestan, builders form their union

Another topic that interested Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, was the consolidation of Dagestani builders in the union. On July 7, in Makhachkala, a meeting of developers of the republic was held, at which they made the decision to create a non-commercial partnership "Union of Builders of Dagestan". In total, the meeting was attended by about 200 members from different parts of Dagestan.

Abakar Abakarov, a moderator of the event, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about the aims and objectives of the new association, which include the provision Makhachkala residents with "relatively cheap and quality housing". Abakar Abakarov has emphasized that some persons of Slav origin, who lived in Moscow and other major Russian cities, has already moved to Makhachkala because of cheap housing.

He has reported the problems of builders caused by local officials and inspectors, in particular, they "turn off electricity, gas; they cut pipes and demand money; and Moscow keeps talking of the Dagestan's arrears on gas and electricity".

In April and May 2013, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev also covered on the "Caucasian Knot" the protests demanding to dismiss Magomedsharipov, the head of the Akhvakh District of Dagestan. On May 3, 2013, in the village of Karat, the native village of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, the rally with the above demands was attended by about 1000 participants.

Besides, shortly prior to his murder, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev covered for the "Caucasian Knot" the topic of the pogroms committed in the houses of residents of the village of Khadjalmakhi; the charges against Bekmurza Bekmurzaev, the former Dagestani Minister on Ethnic Policy, of abuse of power; the detention in the town of Izberbash of Murad Magomedov, the director of a construction company; the interrogation in Dagestan by US FBI agents of a second cousin of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, suspected of commitment of the terrorist act in Boston; the kidnapping of Akhmed Kurbanmagomedov, a resident of Izberbash, and a female resident of the village of Khadjalmakhi, who was later found murdered; the reaction of the Dagestani society to the arrest of Said Amirov, Mayor of Makhachkala; the interrogations of women wearing hijabs in Khasavyurt.
