Azerbaijan starts collecting signatures under motion to perpetuate memory of killed journalists Elmar Guseinov and Rafiq Tagi

The Azerbaijani Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) has launched a campaign to collect signatures under the motion to perpetuate the memory of killed journalists Elmar Guseinov and Rafiq Tagi. This was stated on November 23 by Emin Guseinov, Director of the IRFS, at the memorial ceremony to pay tribute to the memory of Rafiq Tagi on the occasion of the second anniversary of his death. The collection of signatures will be continued till March 2, 2014, that is, till the ninth anniversary of the murder of Elmar Guseinov.

"Elmar Guseinov and Rafiq Tagi fell victim fighting for freedom of the media and freedom of expression in Azerbaijan. Despite threats, they adhered to their principles to the very end: they spoke and wrote the truth, and they were killed for that. They have dedicated their lives to create free society in Azerbaijan. Therefore, the memory of those brave and selfless persons is to be immortalized at the state level," said Emin Guseinov, Director of the IRFS. He stated with regret that the murders remain unsolved.

The Director of the IRFS drew the audience's attention to the fact that the memorial ceremony to pay tribute to the memory of Rafiq Tagi coincided with the International Day against Impunity celebrated on November 23 and dedicated to the victims of fight for the freedom of expression and the fight for their rights.
