Izberbash
City in Dagestan, republican subordination, 56 km south-east of Makhachkala. Located in the Primorskaya Lowland, enclosed by low-level patches of foothills of the Greater Caucasus from the north and the west, stretches along the coast of the Caspian Sea. Railway station in the Makhachkala - Baku line. The Rostov-on-Don - Baku highway passes near the city. Population (1992 est.) 31.7 thousand, (1979 est.) 22.1 thousand.
Arose in 1932 as a settlement of oilers. Since 1948, production of petroleum from the sea floor (from an offshore pier) is carried out. Town since 1949. At the beginning of the 1990s, Izberbash had a factory of electro-thermal equipment, production of mineral building raw material, enterprises of food-processing industry.
There is the Dargin Drama Theatre in Izberbash.
