Eprekht: over 4000 people are still missing after Karabakh conflict

To date, the list of missing persons as a result of the Karabakh conflict makes more than 4000 people, said Sarah Eprekht, the head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yerevan.

According to Ms Eprekht, the ICRC works with families of missing persons. "We are working in close liaison with the Commission on Prisoners of War (POWs), Hostages and Missing Persons, the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS) and several local NGOs," she explained.

Sarah Eprekht has treated the need of tracing the fates of missing persons as an important aspect of the work of the ICRC. To do this, her organization has launched a joint project with the Armenian Red Cross Society "to create a biological database (DNA assays)"; the project will work with relatives of missing people.

"In parallel, we'll start collecting information on the victims of landmines and other explosives, who suffered from the conflict," the "News.am" quotes Sarah Eprekht as saying today.
