Digora
Rayon (sector) centre in Northern Ossetia, 49 km north-west of Vladikavkaz. Located on the Ossetian Plain, on the Ursdon River (the left tributary of the Terek), 12 km west of the railway station of Ardon in the Darg-Kokh - Alagir branch. Population (1992 est.) 11.4 thousand, (1979 est.) 10.5 thousand.
Grew out of a large village. Town since 1964. Agricultural centre (crops of corn, wheat, etc.; gardening, meat-and-milk cattle breeding). There is a factory of citric acid, a food-processing plant, etc.
Digora has a memorial house of a leader in struggle for Soviet Power in the Caucasus, G.A. Tsagolov, born in this town.
