Trial on claim filed by HRC "Memorial" against Prosecutor's Office is postponed till May 23

Court hearing on the claim of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", which challenges the request of the Prosecutor's Office to get registered as a foreign agent, has been postponed till May 23 because of illness of a judge.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after an unscheduled inspection, the Moscow Prosecutor's Office has demanded that the HRC "Memorial" should register as a foreign agent. The organization treats as incorrect the conclusions of the prosecutors who found its activities to be of political nature. Thus, the HRC "Memorial" challenges the prosecutors' notion at the Zamoskvorechye District Court of Moscow.

"Today, the prosecutors and we were ready to start the court hearing on the merits. However, the trial has been postponed till May 23 because of the illness of Judge Shemyakina," Kirill Koroteev, an advocate of the HRC "Memorial", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The trial aroused great interest among the public. Today, the building of the Zamoskvorechye Court was approached not only by participants of the trial, but also by human rights activists, diplomats and journalists.
