Moscow court sentences journalist Boris Stomakhin to 6.5 years of imprisonment

Boris Stomakhin, a founder of the newsletter "Radical Politics", who had served a sentence for providing informational help to websites supporting militants in Chechnya, has been sentenced by the Court to 6.5 years of imprisonment in a high-security colony. Upon completion of his sentence, Boris Stomakhin will be prohibited from working as a journalist.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2006, Boris Stomakhin was sentenced to five years of imprisonment on charges of inciting hatred through the media. Rallies were repeatedly held in his support. The publicist was released in March 2011.

In November 2012, Boris Stomakhin was again arrested on charges of public justification of terrorism, calls for extremism, and inciting hatred or enmity through the media.

The charges against Boris Stomakhin were reasoned by the articles he published in 2011-2012 in his personal blog and on the website of the radical opposition movement "Resistance" and in the newsletter "Radical Politics".

Boris Stomakhin pleaded not guilty for the charges filed against him. After the verdict of the court had been pronounced, the journalist's advocate claimed their disagreement with the decision of the court and their intention to file a complaint to the Moscow City Court.
